WE'RE JUST HERE TO HELP PEOPLE FIND HAPPINESS...AND LLAMA JACKETS...

October 26, 2016

Well, today, we went up to a little hill/monument thing called Santa Lucia. It was kinda neat but nothing too crazy. It had a nice view of the city.

Afterward, we went to a Subway to eat! It was super nice having something familiar and tasty for lunch for once!

There were also a bunch of really cool souvenir shops that had a bunch of cool stuff for quite cheap. I couldn't resist buying a little knit llama jacket there that looks Awesome (doesn't sound like it, but it does)!!! It's actually pretty cold in our casa [house] in the mornings and at night because of the lack of any sort of heating or air conditioning, so having a little jacket will be nice, especially when winter comes...

I don't have too much to talk about. We had transfers so we broke up the trio. We have a pretty cool Peruvian now, named Elder Castillo. He's cool and has a lot more vigor than the last missionary, who was dying. I like him a lot and now we have a reason to speak Spanish in the house and someone to go to for questions about Spanish.

[Mom asks:  Did you take the youth to the temple?]

NO!!! THESE CHILEANS MOVE LIKE SLUGGS!!! .... oh!... I mean, not quite yet we are trying to get a reservation but as soon as we do, we'll be going!

I should also mention the dinner we had while we were in our trio! It was super delicious! We made rice with chicken sauteed with Spike seasoning (finally got to use it lol), green onion, cilantro, broccoli, and soy sauce! It was so delish and we had Fanta floats for dessert! If you look closely you'll see the centerpiece Elder Scott made. LOL It's just a dumbbell decorated with pass-along cards and a candle XD

The thing [with trying to cook for ourselves] is that it has to be able to be made without measurements (we have no measuring cups or anything of the kind here) and some things are really expensive while other things are pretty cheap. Usually, it's the more American stuff that's expensive.  Also, we don't have any money to be able to cook up things very often, almost never. That's why we're fed lunches. That's the biggest meal of the day and mostly covers our need for cooking.

One of the neat things we do when we go out and contact people, especially someone in the streets, is we tell them that, as missionaries, we're really just here to help people find happiness. That's so true, the more I've thought about it and the more I've been here! If I had to help someone be happier I'd just share the Gospel with them or help them apply Christ-like principles to their life! ...One thing I've learned a LOT about here on the mission is happiness.
